Step up to the podium Thomas!

Last week HOAX ambassador Thomas Reeves took out the Under 14’s UK Schools Surf championships!

We thought it was only right to catch up with him and find out more about his victory and what it means to him…

Firstly, huge congratulations on becoming Under 14’s UK Schools champ! Is this the best result you’ve ever had?

TR: Yes it’s my best result! I have also won the U12’s Rip Curl Grom Search a couple of years ago but I’m super stoked to be Under 14 UK Schools champ!

As you should be! How did you feel going into the event? Did you feel confident about your chances?

TR: I felt I had a god chance of making the final, but it’s a tough division so I wasn’t expecting to get the win!

Well you did better than making the finals! Talk us through the comp, what were the waves like? How did you feel as you progressed through the rounds?

TR: Day 1 had small clean waves which were fun, I felt I surfed well in my round 1 heat and was stoked to get the heat win. Day 2 had bigger waves and was clean in the morning but turned onshore later in the day. It was a tough day as I was up against some good surfers and I got to the semi-finals by grabing second place.

The waves got tricky for the final and it was very close, but I was stoked to come out on top!

You were also representing your school at this event, did that add some extra pressure when you were out in the water?

TR: No not really, I felt pretty relaxed and it’s awesome that my school came out on top too!

A god result all round then! How does this result set you up for the rest of the contest season?

TR: It’s made me feel confident to get some more good results! As the season goes on it would be sick to grab another win!

Well we’re sure another great result is just around the corner! Is there anyone you want to give a shout-out to?

TR: Yeah – big shout out to Chris Brown and Steve Hancock of Global Boarders for all of their coaching and support! Big shout out to you guys at HOAX for all of your support and to Ben Smith for shaping me some sick HOAX surfboards. Finally a big thanks to Excel wetsuits for their continued support too!
